A cable laying vessel, the Apache, passing a rig anchored in the Cromarty Firth.

The rig is the 706 - there were only four of us on it at the time.

If this is Apache then it's a pipelay vessel, not a cable lay vessel. It used to be owned by Stena but someone else operates it now.

That certainly is Apache. Originally owned by Santa Fe who had several vessels named after Indian tribes...Choctaw and Cree were two. Apache could lay up to 16 inch diameter pipe but 10 inch or less was more normal.
