Brown & Root DB Hercules, Persian Gulf 1978

The last job I worked for Taylor Diving & Salvage was onboard the Hercules, removing 2 abandoned platform jackets in the Persian Gulf in November 1978. It was the highlight of my tenure with TDS -- I made a bunch of dives, I got to use explosives, and we didn't get arrested by the Iranian Navy for not having a blasting permit. Seeing as how the Shah's government was weeks away from collapse, they weren't keen on giving people permission to use explosives... Anyway, I also worked on the DB Atlas in the North Sea, building the Statfjord platform. I can't find any photos of the Atlas -- if anyone has a lead on that, please let me know!

Bad ass bro. It looks similar to the old DB-1. Hell, I don't even know if Brown and Root called it the DB-1

I remember the old Hercules, I was on it during transit from Rotterdam to Bahrain.
I remember old Bob Nerren Sup, and old Fred in the store.
I was the Medic on there for the trip.
What a trip that was, but a good bunch of lads.

My late husband Don Curtis R.I.P worked on The Hercules in the North Sea for quite a few years

Was Don Curtis the Master of the Barge during that period, because I always thought his name was Danny, and was from Ireland.?

I too am looking for photos of Brow and Roots Derrick Barge Atlas.

John Furlong, did we go to Guyana together in 1980 or 81 (or thereabouts)

Added by Jim Cole on 18 July 2017.
Hi Jim, I cannot remember ever going down to Guyana. I was still down in the middle east in 81. Perhaps you may have mistaken me for someone else. What are you doing yourself these days.? I am running the clock down right now.
I have just two years remaining. It's not what it used to be, as Merle Haggard would sing "Are the good times really over for good"

You take care.

Hi John

What do you mean 2 years remaining?

We had a chap on for the tow down to Bahrain, he was a AB, which they had to use for the tow.
He tried to stab the Captain, which was also on for the tow.
We had to get him off in a strait jacket in Malta.
What a trip that was.
