Another excellent photo, I joined when she was the Black Pig and experienced the change over to 'Green Pig'. Didn't have quite the same ring about it. Will always be affectionately known as the Black Pig.

Leslie, I remember the change from Black to Green and back to black again - the OIM was not amused.

I worked on Thistle drill rig re-activation project in 2007/08. Great bunch of guys n gals there and enjoyed my 19 trip stint! Accommodation had just got upgraded too so nice rooms there. Still communal toilets and showers but place is fine. Just a swine to get off on time. Was also on there when lube oil fire broke out in turbine mod2 Nov 2007 and all non-essentials got sent to Murchy and Dunlin. Hope to return one day !

I was one of the Santa Fe crane ops (Wee Eddie or Ned as I was sometimes called - among many other titles!!!) on Thistle and was part of the group who removed the first Derrick and drilling package. Remember the OIM trying his best to go green and could not appreciate that the term Black Pig was one of affection, not insulting. God loves a trier!!
Great site just stumbled on by accident

I was a radio operator on the accomodation rig Gulnare that was next to the Thistle A during the hook-up period. Busy days and enjoyed working with a lot of enthusiatic Scots out there.
We were there almost 3 years - from summer 1977 and almost 3 years.

I started on this platform as a motorman while it was under construction, became Rig 111 mechanic and later Snr mech over 111/112 before transfering overseas.

The name "The Black Pig" was not originally the platforms name, it was the name given to rig 112 electrician Brian Geddes by rig 111 French electrician Chris Rasch who named him Le Cochon Noir!

The name stuck with Brian and he was still known as "the Black Pig" years later while working in Egypt!

I believe Eddie McWilliams father Danny also worked on the Thistle as a welder.
