In spite of all the new technology Iron Roughnecks and such like I have never seen a quicker way to make up Drill pipe. I was on the Ocean Ben Loyal in the early 80, and on a trip to a depth of 12000 feet, we averaged 1 stand every 55 seconds, using the spinning chain. I was one of 3 roughnecks and a very good driller and derrickman. At that time I was generally on the spinning chain, and as long as you kept alert there was no problem with the chain.
